Bill
McNamara
Director of Visual Effects
Bill started
his career in his native Auckland in 1985 at the tender age of 15
when he joined Vidcom as a Cinetape Operator. Within only 3 years
he had moved up the ranks to become Senior Editor, where he remained
until he left with the Management to set up a new facility in Auckland,
Digital Post. Here he headed up a department of 6 editors and was
instrumental in ensuring the technical capabilities of the facility
were second to none as well as gaining a great reputation for creative
excellence with some of the country’s top agencies. During
this time Bill won numerous awards for his promo work including
winning Editor of the Year at the Australian Music Awards and the
New Zealand Music Awards two years running.
In 1997 he
decided to head for pastures new and left New Zealand for England
where he joined Rushes as a Senior Flame Artist. Since then he has
worked on a whole range of high-end commercials and promos from
Coca-Cola, Alfa Romeo and Invensys (D&AD Finalist Special Effects)
to Depeche Mode and the Super Furry Animals and has worked with
leading directors such as Wim Wenders, Michael Haussman, Chris Hartwell,
Jon Greenhalgh, Lee Tamahori, Sam Bayer, Anthea Benton, Fredrick
Bond, Blue Source and Pedro Romhanyi.
In September
2001 Bill was promoted to Director of Visual Effects and is now
responsible for a Visual Effects Department which encompasses Flame,
Inferno and Fire, as well as continuing to work as an Inferno Artist
and VFX Supervisor. Bill is involved with every stage of the production
process from storyboard quotation, shoot supervision and leading
a VFX team of ten Inferno/Fire/Flame Artists.
