Non-Linear Digital Editing Background: Random access/non linear off-line editing has become the industry
standard over the last four years and has taken the UK post production
world by storm. |
What it is: Random access editing allows the editor to instantly access, play, move and edit, in any order, the frames and sound he needs, without having to shuttle through film or videotape. In our Avid, the rushes can be stored at a range of different resolutions from AVR 2 which gives an offline quality picture, right up to AVR 75 which gives a high quality picture of broadcastable resolution. There is of course a play-off between the higher quality pictures and the time it takes to process the images. Storage space is also reduced with higher quality images. However, with a full 17 Gigabytes available to us we are more than adequately covered for the storage of material at any of the available resolutions. Finally, being Mac based, Avid can take other compatible programmes and plug-ins as well as pict and tiff files. |
How it works: Our state of the art Avid suite has additional effects capabilities
giving keying, matting, picture zooms and wipes etc. This gives
the editor and director a far truer representation of how the
final master will eventually look, particularly on complex work.
This of course is in addition to Avid's legendary editing flexibility,
giving the creative freedom to try out limitless combinations
of shots prior to deciding the final version. The computer updates
editing decisions as they happen, relieving editors of tedious
time code number crunching. |
