Commissioned by River Island to mark the launch of their latest Design Forum collection in collaboration with designer Georgia Hardinge, White Lodge director Alex Turvey creates this stunning vision inspired by Hardinge's print textures and the intricate detailing of the collection's showpiece, which references the aesthetic of Swiss surrealist artist H.R. Geiger.
Set within this Giger inspired universe, the film tells the story of a macabre alien life cycle, using Hardinge’s signature architectural style to portray a level of depth and movement in her almost sculptural designs, "I have a fascination with sculpture and love to transfer this 3D way of working into clothing - the main showpiece which is shown in the film was sculpted to flatter and mould around the female silhouette."
Rushes Director of Colour Grading Simone Grattarola says “It was great to work with Alex again. He has come up with a beautifully surreal film with, as always, lovely lighting from Mr Bex. We crafted some extra mood overall and subtly increased warmth and coolness where appropriate in the timeline. We had Vangelis’ Blade runner soundtrack playing on the stereo to get us into the sci-fi vibe.”
The collaboration is part of River Island's Design Forum, a successful initiative offering emerging designers an opportunity to deliver a collection to a much wider audience with the high-street giant. Georgia's collection will launch via the short film at the Fash/On Film Festival event at London Fashion Week, and will be available in River Island stores from early April.
