Luke Monaghan triumphantly returns to music video with this raw, dynamic and filmic piece for UK-dance scenesters Disclosure. The original track ‘White Noise’ has been one of the biggest hits of 2013 as well as one of the theme tracks at this year's London Fashion Week and brings together two of the hottest new artists of 2013 in the form of Disclosure and AlunaGeorge.
Beautifully graded by Rushes Denny Cooper, the melancholic promo produced by Tom Knight at Rokkit perfectly reflects the great track from Disclosure with its homage to the birthplace of techno – Detroit.
On deciding to head to Detroit for the shoot Luke says “I was talking to Disclosure's manager Sam about shooting their next video in Detroit, he was really keen on Detroit and it's somewhere that excited me. So I got the track and came up with the story of this guy who looks after these incredible buildings in Detroit. He reclaims the spaces as his own, like people used to and still do, in Detroit when throwing parties. And he just goes wild in them.”
The team ended up shooting in many of Detroit’s iconic abandoned spots including the East Town Theatre and Michigan Train Station. The true star of the video though is its protagonist played by ‘legend’ of the Detroit house and hip-hop scene, Kafani. Luke says “Kafani is part of a legendary dance group called Hardcore Detroit. He's not your typical dancer, his moves are melodic and quirky, perfect for the song. He has a story and real character, that's why we chose him. When I wrote the idea, I said he would have a yellow ski jacket on, we found this amazing Michigan Wolverines ski jacket, by Starter, when we were out in Detroit. It was the one. Perfect.”
