The drama premiered in June on US network ABC and simulcast on Global in Canada.

Combat Hospital was a massive hit with North American viewers pulling an audience of 2 million viewers on its debut broadcast, establishing itself as Canada’s #1 original drama of the year and the second highest-rated premiere of any Canadian drama in over a decade. The medical drama also received critical acclaim.

Praise includes: “A compelling peek at a world we all should know more about” (Sun Media); ”A fictional, eye-opening look at the real-world medical heroes working the front lines of Afghanistan” (Postmedia News); and “…solid television” (The Globe and Mail).

Shot in Toronto the digital dailies and conform were completed by Deluxe Post in Toronto prior to the post being completed in London at Rushes and Deluxe142.
The highly-charged series charts the frantic lives at the only military hospital providing advanced surgical care in all of Southern Afghanistan.

Strong communication was key across all departments.
Jonathan Privett and Hayden Jones, Rushes VFX Supervisors, comment “Rob Gray the Production Designer built a superb back lot but there are limits to creating an airbase of 15,000 people and the world’s busiest runway in suburban Toronto. A key aspect of the show is to give the impression of being in Kandahar. We created all relevant operational aircraft and built an entirely CG version of the base from reference footage. These are used in combination with the matte paintings, stock footage and specifically shot elements from Morocco. Whenever the show goes outside there are VFX, be it CG people, helicopters, Humvee’s or aircraft.”

Post Production Supervisor, Joanna Gueritz said: “Our requirements in terms of scale and creative skills have been considerable and we are very pleased with the support and talent made available to us in London, Toronto and LA’

Senior VFX producer Louise Hussey adds: “We worked hard on streamlining the digital delivery of files and offlines via Aspera and are using Shotgun tracking software to manage the complexity of feedback and shot management across multiple locations and time zones.”
