Rushes post Escada perfume launch
6th Nov 2007: High-end European fashion brand Escada has recently launched a new perfume with five heavily stylised, beautifully shot commercials.
Directed by the acclaimed Johan Renck, the look of the commercials resembles an editorial fashion story. Rushes' Leo Weston comments, “In ‘Bubbles’ our task was to create the effect of a room filling up with red bubbles as if they were being blown from the central characters eyeglass. Some perspex bubbles were shot on set in pools; these plates were then composited in Flame to give the look of a floor knee-deep in bubbles.”
Rushes' Matt Jackson attended the shoot and took stills of red perspex balls hanging from wires in-situ, so that we had realistic references for transparencies and reflections. These stills were tracked to the scene then animated and warped in Flame to create the look of them growing from the eyeglass and floating throughout the scene. More bubbles were created in the Rushes 3D department along with shadow and reflection passes, allowing for more interaction between the bubbles and the surrounding set and characters.
These elements were then composited in Flame along with more 2D plates. The final pullback was then warped and tracked into one of the red dots on the pack (shot at Rushes Motion Control studio) to give the look that the whole scene takes place inside of the perfume bottle. The final mastergrade was then done by Marcus Timpson to ensure that the red colour of the bubbles and woman’s dress was an exact match to the Escada pantone.”
