The first startling
spot opens with a close up of a smoke detector in someone’s
flat. As the voice-over tells us the benefits and functions of the
smoke alarm, the camera pans out and there is a fire in the background.
The camera then moves upstairs in to the bedroom; smoke is coming
up through the floor. A man is asleep in bed. “This is James,”
says the voice-over, “he took the battery out of his smoke
alarm as it kept going off.” The smoke then totally envelops
the room.
In the next
spot, a saucepan is in flames on the cooker. ‘Don’t
Try’ comes up in large letters on the screen. A man runs in
and grabs the hot handle of the pan and drops it, the flames catch
his clothing. ‘Don’t Try This’ appears on screen.
Another pan is alight in a different kitchen, a woman runs in, turns
on the tap and throws water over the flaming pan, which then explodes.
‘Don’t Try This At Home,’ comes into view. The
poignant, final shot is a singed child’s drawing, on the fridge,
in a blackened kitchen. The voice-over tells us to “Get Out
And Stay Out, Call 999.’ |
