Rushes have once again been chosen to complete the post production
work on a promo for the band 'A'. Their new single, 'Goodtime',
is reminiscent of much of A's previous work, in that it is brimming
with energy and intensity, something which this promo clearly reflects.
The promo opens
with the camera concentrating on the feet of the band's vocalist,
Jason Perry as he walks on tarmac. As he starts to sing the camera
rises up his body to his face. The action is set in what appears
to be an abandoned and overgrown industrial estate. Amongst the
derelict buildings and stranded cars Perry's vocals resonate clearly.
He is very much at the forefront of the action throughout. The camera
rarely leaves him as he stalks the length of a building, the band
against the wall in the background. We get the sense that he is
travelling in a perpetual loop and the band is shadowing him. With
a backdrop of prefabricated buildings and urban wasteland, Perry
puts in an energetic performance. Having followed the vocalist into
an empty building, the rest of the band take his lead and dance
frantically. As Mark Chapman (guitar), Dan Carter (bass) and Giles
Perry (keyboards) play their instruments wildly, the camera focuses
for a moment on Adam Perry (drums) who appears to be subsumed by
the music. As the promo reaches its conclusion the band can be found
on the roof of a prefab. Having sung the last few chords Jason Perry
visibly breathes a huge sigh, clearly exhausted by the performance.
Rushes says:
"Dougal has done a fantastic job getting the performance from
one shot. A lot of one shot promos rely on transition points to
save the effect. Not on this one though."
